If retail pricing gets down below $200 then I think this pinner will do pretty well. The Senco FinishPro 23LXP 23 gauge micro pinner, item 8L0001N, controls micro pin nails from 1/2' to 2' in length. MSRP is set at $229, so far I haven’t seen this model advertised online so see what the difference might be. On the up side the 23LXP is built like a tank and it offers great power and penetrated each pin I shot below the surface (something some of the other pinners can’t always say). On the down side the Senco 23LXP is quite a bit larger than some of the other models, however, it also allows 2″ long pins, something the others do not offer. Over the last year there have been several new pin nailers released into the market. The pins simply slide into a slot in the magazine which keeps them from falling out and also gives you a good positive position to slide them into. In addition to the quality build and precise operation I was pleased with several other features including: the swivel air coupler, the ease of using the double safety trigger and how easy it is to load pins into this tool. I think I did a great job and that’s really due to how easy you can see the tip. To see how easy it is to place pins accurately I drew a pencil line and tried nailing along the line. Being able to use a 2″ long pin certainly opens up many more tasks that previously may have been done with a trim gun. Having a model available with this longer length capacity, really opens up the uses for a headless pinner. I didn’t try 2″ long pins (I didn’t have any on hand) however, from what I experienced it’s very likely this pinner will handle 2″ pins just as well as it did the 1-1/2″ ones. As you can see above at 85 psi working pressure the pinner sunk the pins flush in both materials (the wood is pieces left from a glue-up for a cutting board). In order to test how well the pinner works I loaded some 1-1/2″ long pins and fired a long line of pins into Maple and Purple Heart (both quite hard). Performance is as important as anything and the 23LXP performs very well. The quality materials will perform very well in industrial and commercial settings. The 23LXP is built from quality materials including a heavy duty cast body and a lower aluminum fastener magazine. Two features stick out in my mind after spending some time testing this new pin nailer and those are Durability and Performance.
